About the Hava NaGrilla Kosher BBQ Charity Festival and Competition
The Men’s Club of Temple Beth Hillel-Beth El will host the second annual Charity BBQ Festival in the Mid-Atlantic region, certified by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 26, 2018, from 12 noon to 5PM on the Main Line of Philadelphia. Twenty cooking teams will compete under the competition guidelines of the Kansas City Barbeque Society, as well as the scrutiny of the kosher supervisors Keystone K. View our Keystone-K Certification
We welcome all barbeque enthusiasts and backyard chefs from the Philadelphia region and beyond to join the competition, which will begin on Saturday evening after sundown. The goal is to promote Jewish values and kindle community spirit, while enjoying sumptuous beef ribs and brisket, chicken thighs, turkey legs and duck…smoked ‘low and slow’ to perfection.
Our name, “Hava NaGrilla”, was chosen to reflect the message of the iconic song which translates as “Let us sing, let us sing, and be glad. Awaken brethren with a cheerful heart.”
Hava NaGrilla was originally created by Howard Levin as part of the “Golden Slippers” event in 2009/2010.
The goal of Hava NaGrilla Charity BBQ Festival is to bring community together and support the work of the Jewish Relief Agency; relieving hunger, improving lives and strengthening our bonds of fellowship. Learn more about the Jewish Relief Agency
All admission fees: $10 individual and $20 family, will benefit the Jewish Relief Agency. The gate fee only includes admission to the charity food festival.

The Pickle Guys, Hava NaGrilla’s official pickle providers.
The Pickle Guys have a gourmet Pickle Store on the Lower East Side of NYC. They make their pickles from an old Eastern European recipe “Just the way mom use to make them”.
The pickles are made by letting them sit in salt brine with garlic, spices, and no preservatives. Storing them in barrels, from a day up to six months, the pickles cure as they sit.
They also have added Olives, Pickled Watermelon & Russell Borscht and Pickled Turnips and Pickled Pineapples!
